Yay - I get to volunteer

I finally heard something from Veronica's school. They need help this Thursday (and the next 2 after that) with a magazine fundraiser they're doing. Just collecting orders and helping in the 'prize booth' over the lunch hour. When Veronica got home, I told her I'd be at her school on Thursday, and she looked a bit horrified. I think she believed I was going specifically to embarrass her. When I told her I was just going to be helping with the fundraiser, she was okay with that. I was going to tease her that I was going to follow her around to all her classes all day, but by the horrified look on her face just by saying I was going to be there, I figured that would push her over the edge.

Tonight at curriculum night I had a chance to sign up for some things at Becca's school, and her teacher is also putting together small groups for reading and math that need some extra help. So soon I'll be busy helping at both schools, I think. Yay. This is what I had hoped to do when I started staying home. I wanted to be around for them when they got home from school, and be involved where I could at their schools. Should be a fun year!

Call me. Really. Anytime is good.

Since I am staying home now, I've been excited about doing some volunteer stuff at my kids' schools this year. They apparently don't want me...

I emailed the principal at Rebecca's elementary school (that's what the website said to do if you wanted to volunteer) and said I was free every week if there was something 'repeated' that needed doing. I heard nothing back. Huh. So I emailed her teacher directly to see if I could help in the classroom. She brought home a 'form letter' in her backpack last week asking for the days/hours I was available. I marked them all. :-) I never heard anything back. Hmmm... now I'm getting a complex.

There was a notice that came home in one of Veronica's weekly newsletters from Middle school stating that there are volunteer opportunities available. However, it doesn't say who to contact, or how to find out what those opportunities are. I looked on the website, and there's nothing there. I think they're all teasing me. Seriously, people. I have TIME to give. Call me. Really.

I love Fridays

I don't know why I still love Fridays so much when every day is pretty much the same for me. But the 'feeling' of Friday is awesome - end of the week, start of a weekend, and this weekend with no plans. I love plan free weekends to just do 'whatever' as the mood strikes.

We're getting a taste of fall a little bit this weekend. Today was pretty cool in the morning, and I think I'm ready for the fall to come. I had a great summer and loved the heat and the pool time, but I also like the leaves changing, football, chili, fires in the fire pit, etc. If only we could have fall until Spring and skip over the winter part...

First Day of School

It's finally here - the end of summer (though today was 90 degrees) as marked by the first day of school. Both kids had a good day. Becca won 'bingo' today (it was a tough first day, clearly), and Veronica found out there were kids in her class that she knew but hadn't seen for a while. It was fun to re-connect with some old friends and catch up with those she hadn't seen much over the summer. Hopefully a good year for both of them. Day one was good anyway!

Summer is over

Today is the last day before school starts. I can't believe the summer is over already. The days flew by and I had a great summer at home with the kids. They're ready to go back to school - I don't know that I'm ready for them to go back.

I told David I was going to stay home for the summer. I think he believed that meant that once the kids went back to school, that I would go back to work. I figured that's the way it would be, but I really, REALLY don't want to go back to work. I enjoy being at home and managing my own schedule, and I'd be perfectly happy to just be at home, see the kids off to school, volunteer at their schools, and then be home when they get home. The problem is, staying home just doesn't seem to pay very well.... I don't know what I'll end up doing. I suppose I need to start making some money again somehow, but I know I don't want to get back into the long hours, stress, and travel that I had before. Maybe that 'perfect' job is out there but I don't even know where to start looking.

Maybe I'll start thinking about it more next week. :-)

Summer is almost over

Well, not temperature wise, but school starts next week. I can't believe the summer went so fast! The kids are looking forward to going back to school, and for the sake of their constant fighting now at the end of summer, I'm ready for them to go back, too. But I'm not ready for summer to be over. I've had a great time hanging out with them all summer - it's been wonderful to sleep in, do whatever we want each day, and live stress free for a while. Ahhhh... Everyone should have the chance sometime to not be scheduled and just 'do' whatever and whenever. I think I'll try to drag out these last 6 days before it officially comes to an end.
